Yoga was first developed as a supplemental practice for meditative yogis. Movements and postures—many of which were modeled after animals and other natural elements—helped yogis direct the energies harnessed during long periods of meditation.
Though very few people today meditate for hours on end, the daily challenges of modern life span a broader range than those of most ancient Indian mystics.
Yin yoga is a gentle practice intended for the release of stress and tension from the spirit - mind - body. Through various stretches, postures, and breathing practices, one may identify places of tension and release stagnant energies and blockages.
QiGong (also spelled Chi Kung) is an expansive practice which includes the artful movements of Tai Chi. Ancient Chinese mystics developed QiGong as a means of balancing and harmonizing the life energy (Qi) which flows throughout each of us.
With intent and focused awareness of the breath, simple physical movements may become powerful representations of energetic movements within the body - mind - spirit. These movements may be directed toward gently healing or powerfully energizing specific physical, psychological, and spiritual conditions.
